GE2221 Violence and Crime A+ Teaching: Sharon: Sociological theories of crime, triad society Dan: Media, policing and violence, 2 in-class group assignments Cora: Biological and psychological theories of crime, youth violence, group essay consultationAssignments: 2 in-class assignments (250 words): Dan will give the topic at the beginning of his lecture. The questions are very easy and open-ended. You could answer the questions very freely. The submission time would be 9pm.Group essay (3,000 - 4,000 words): 4-5 people in a group. You need to select a crime and use 1-2 theories you have learnt/not learnt to explain the major causes of the crime and the limitations of those theories. Furthermore, you could explain if the punishment is suitable or not and make some suggestions on preventing the same type of crime from happening again.Test (Week 13): MC questions + short questions. Some MC questions asked you about the statistics. I suggest you memorize all of the main points in the lecture notes before the test. Overall, the test was not difficult but required you to spend more time on revision.Cora, Dan and Sharon are all very nice. They are very willing to answer your questions. When you study this course, you can learn a lot about the theories of crime from sociological, biological and psychological aspects. In other words, you can acquire more knowledge of criminology.
