Melody is a good professor in terms of teaching or explaining the requirement of the assignment, she might not be a lenient examiner when marking assignment/giving grade.

20 % Class Participation
Tutorial/Lecture would take attendance, don't skip any of it. DONT SKIP the presentation session in last 2 lecture since you have to fill in the evaluation form for each group and it count into your participation.

30 % Group Presentation & 20 % Reading Assignment
Creativity Matters. You have to be creative enough in order to satisfy a demanding Melody.

CITATION MATTERS !!!!!!!!!! Check more than twice when it come to citation, Melody will be able to find every mistake on citation.

30 % Two Quizzes (MC)
First quiz is difficult, you have to deal with the weekly reading otherwise you can't answer them.
Second quiz is relatively easier just because the question was mainly from the lecture notes, don't over-estimate it.
The reason I got B was because I didn't study enough for the quizzes, it is my fault.

Overall comment:
You don't know whether the quality of your assignment/presentation can satisfy Melody so quiz is fetal for B+/A range.

If you want an interesting GE with Japanese tea culture/tea room visit, go for it.
If you want an relaxing/low-workload/good grade GE, find another one.

P.S: The previous comment said the lecture about philosophy taught by Dr.Wang was boring. I don't really think so, his teaching performance was even better than Melody herself. Remember to attend those 2 lecture, it is inspiring.

兩個quizzes(大約25題嘅mc):

Individual paper:

Group project:

2. 個人認為有兩堂關於sense of season 同sense of beauty 嘅 guest lectures 教得好差。

workload都多,唔算hea(冇得走堂,每個星期都要睇reading),但勝在有付出就會有收穫,教嘅內容比較有趣。

Workload:
2 Tests
1 Reading assignment
1 Group Presentation

Most of the lectures are fun and interactive. You can learn interesting Japanese cultures like tea, flowers and kimono. However, the male guest lecturer Dr Wang, did not prepare well and taught many confusing concept. But generally, its a great course for ppl that are keen on learning some Japanese customs!

In this course, there are three tutorial sections for students to visit tea room and learn some tea ceremony manners. During the lecture time, there is also demonstration of flower arrangement and kimono. Sometime the lectures might be slightly boring, depends on which lecturer, as there are three lecturers teaching the course. But generally it is still an interesting course.

The workload is not very heavy, there are one individual assignment (writing a 300 words essay), one group project (presentation only) and two MC quizzes. The group project might need some effort in order to get a high mark. For the MC quizzes, I personally think they are not that difficult, as long as you have revised for the powerpoint notes, coursepack reading, and pay attention during lesson time, you will be able to get a good mark.

I will recommend this course to those who wish to learn more about Japanese culture. Even though you don’t know any Japanese language, you still able to survive the course.

2個tests,一個好難一個好易,mc+fill in the blanks

A good choice for those who are good at memorising.
Doesn't really matter whether you know the language.

dropped this course becoz from the 1 st lecture you might realise that you will be a loser if you don't know any Japanese language, the culture and the characteristics of Japanese people, you will feel alienated becoz most ppl around you jot notes in jap and they understand the Jap jokes . the tutor spoke in fluent english and japanese explaining the terms (already difficult to understand in chinese, now is explained in english) workload is acceptable if u really like the cultural stuff, but i was quite disappointed by the teaching style (a biased one)
