我系2018/19summer
上堂規則比較多,唔可以食野同飲野
唔比傾計,佢見你傾計會停系度望住你,然後就會行過黎問你咩名同SID No.
佢上堂講野好lur而且好悶,真系有興趣先好讀
無phy底的同學上堂落足心機上應該都handle到。
Presentation 要求不太高
有Lab visit一定要去,會take attendence, 基本上就系介紹一下EE lab然後寫lab report 。
唔好以為無attendence分就好爽,要靚grade肯定系上堂要聽書然後不停jot notes, 好鐘意考上堂講嘅野而且notes無,真系分心一秒都唔惦

至於點解我F我都唔清楚
Ps. 無讀phy,專心上堂,無走過堂

The workload is much heavier than it used to be starting from this semester. 1.The content of the course it self is quite interesting and useful, and the instructor had done experiments in the lecture every time.
2.There are quiz over the semester. They are not difficult, but however is kind of stupid in my opinion when your score is in fact the number of keywords you have written.
3.Do pay attention to what they've said during the lab visit since no one has a clue what those machines are for and you are required to produce a mutli-page report with zero knowledge.
4.The presentation was going in the way that I am not expecting. Essentially, the more words you put in your keynote, the higher mark you will get. Professor does not appreciate graphs and pictures as he thinks that is a act of laziness. Put paragraphs in your keynote and be prepared for fundamental questions then you'll nail the final project and presentation.

I personally believe I didn't put more than 3 days of work for the whole semester on this course, as I studied the majority of the content in high school and thus saved me a lot of study time. However, if one hasn't studied the content ,it's still very easy and If I had put a little bit more effort getting an A or A+ shouldn't be that hard.So recommend this course and try to put in abit of effort for a good grade.The group project and coursework matter a lot.

Reg之前聽聞靚grade加workload細,但佢由呢個sem開始就加左個exam同lab report
呢科workload都算大 有phy底會有著數
兩次in-class quiz,有mc, true false, 畫圖, long question,long question答到key point就得,自問冇咩溫過書,所以兩次都好似低過mean
Lab visit,會有一堂去ee個lab參觀,參觀完要寫份report,佢要我地寫兩、三版紙,但根本就no idea寫咩,所以都係亂寫
Presentation+Group report,4-6人一組,要同optics有關,group report一組作1500字,都輕鬆
Exam,全部long question,其實大部分題目同quiz一樣,但當時我冇溫過quiz...
自問quiz同exam都冇咩溫過書,如果溫得熟我相信grade會靚好多
呢個course教既係基本既phy,個prof都肯俾consult,未phy底或者phy底差既要自己衡量

今年改制加咗Exam同lab visit 所以應該冇以前workload禁低

1.Quiz (兩個) Quiz1: 61/81 Quiz2: 65/90
考ppt嘅concept 有理科底嘅應該好易明 冇嘅話上堂專心聽應該都可以明 啊sir解釋得幾清楚 聽唔切/有問題問佢都會幫手
Quiz三四版紙 頭兩版都係考重點concept嘅填充 MC TF 畫圖 後兩版就係長題目 有啲題目可以俾你畫圖說明 所以唔太考grammar 其實都係答到重點字眼就會俾分 就算攞唔哂長題目啲分 有溫書嘅話前兩版都好易執 Quiz嘅分數會email俾你

2.Lab Visit
因為係第一次加嘅活動 唔知下年會唔會再改
大概喺sem中/尾 喺上堂最後一個鐘去參觀Lab 有attendance
建議印好佢俾嘅lab visit ppt 到時去邊聽邊抄低prof講嘅嘢
用嚟之後要寫lab report
我地係第一年寫 所以都冇sample參考 我就單純intro maintext conclusion 中間加啲我自己喺Lab影嘅圖 啊sir就叫我地去google ppt入面啲關鍵字 加埋visit抄啲資料就應該寫到唔少嘢 我好似4 5版左右

3.Presentation
喺佢比嘅題目/自己簡有關嘅題目做Present 我嗰組其實都算幾hea 講下concept,functions, how it works (見到其他組都瘋狂擺啲個ppt全部都係字) 佢會問你問題 睇你究竟明唔明個concept 所以最好真係理解下你present緊咩 唔好直抄直讀
Present完後要交份Group report 其實都係將你present嘅稿打番成作文咁 1500字 4/5人分 其實workload都唔算重

4.Exam
全部長題目 頭兩題係送分題 有溫書就識 後幾題就難啲 我做嗰陣都好冇自信 都最後都A到 所以應該唔洗擔心

總括而言 算係唔錯嘅GE 上堂冇attendance 但係其實Prof.講得好有趣 好多實驗同示範睇 只要唔好食嘢騷擾佢上堂就得 有理科底會易讀啲 冇嘅話認真聽書睇ptt應該都冇問題 Prof.都話好多商科人攞A (利申科工女) 但真係因人而異 我都識得啲商科人睇唔明啲concept 希望幫到你地

C+囉咩事? 根本個教授教得唔好又唔清楚. 每次上堂都係照powerpoint讀. 問D TA 問題,佢哋又唔識答. Project想做得好啲,想consult professor 叫佢畀啲意見,又唔肯覆我哋. JEEP! 教又教得唔好但個grade又爛. 邊個想讀呢科, 我真係恭喜你呀!

It is out of every possible expectation that I got a B in this course. With regards to the comments left by those who have studied this course before, it seems that this course awards students with generous grades. BUT IT IS NOT.

The workload is tbf light. No class attendance, except tutorials, is needed. For tutorials, you basically only need to be there and sign ur name and done. For the lectures, they are not really helpful either, so you can basically skip the whole course and just attend the tests, presentation and lab visits, etc.

However, the tests were highly eccentric. Take the first test as an example, MCs were adopted as a means of assessment. However, Pun [the course leader] promised that there would be 45 minutes of exam time. But, he stopped us after 30 minutes had passed. It was highly unfair and no one objected. Even though, most of us could finish the test wfin 30 mins, it was not a valid justification for cutting our test time.

For the 2nd test, long questions were adopted for means of assessment. I remember it was a 2 in 4 choice, you can choose any 2 Q.s out of 4 Q.s to answer. It was not merely asking for definition of concepts, as suggested by previous comments, but some concepts, for example, chromatic dispersion, which was NOT EXPLAINED clearly by Pun AT ALL, or the advantages and disadvantages of optical fibres [Pun only gave us pictures in the concerned slides, without detailed points given for us to ans such Q.s]. The tests were traps.

As to the final report occupying allegedly 60% of the total course marks, I firmly believe that our project at least worth a B+ or an A-, as one of my gpmate got a final grade of A-, and another one got a B+. But then, it seems that as contrary to the course manual, it seems that the tests instead of the project is the decisive factor. When the project is at least a B+/A-, how could I get a B only? Especially, one of my gpmates got a C+. If the project really weighs 60%, this should not happen.

When I informally ask Pun to review my grades, he gave an extremely irresponsible response that all grades must be correct, as the staff should have reviewed the marks before entering them and generate the final grade. He did not even bother to give us the marks distribution even when enquiries are raised. The transparency is low and the course leader's ability and attitude are simply doubtful.

In addition, I would like to mention that after me, acting on behalf of our group, sending the project to Pun, who immediately acknowledged the acceptance of our project, sent an email to my gpmates 2 weeks afterwards alleging that they hadnt submitted the group project report. This is simply a powerful illustration of how highly incompetent Pun is and how much vigilance should one take before enrolling into this course.

兩次quiz, 第一個係20條mc,正常都應該啱18-19條, 好簡單, 第二個係lq, 分高下. 個presentation不太差就ok, report就6個人寫800字.

【Quiz 1】:
佔20分,約15分鐘,20條多項選擇題,涵蓋Chapter 1至6,只要擁有基本的Wave概念就可以完全上手
【Quiz 2】:
佔20分,約30分鐘,題目4選2,字數不限,涵蓋Chapter 6至9,需要溫習筆記所有內容,但題目仍屬簡單
【Presentation】:
在Week 5或之前組成總共不多於6人的小組,沒有分組則隨機分配。分組後每組隨機獲派1條題目,可轉其他所指定題目(共7條)或者自擬題目(必須與本課程有關),參考Canvas列出的探討範疇來完成簡報,並在指定日期在課堂上向同學匯報
每組有大約10分鐘的時間,自由發揮(本次有組別自擬題目,還在匯報期間展示並運行自製實驗裝置,十分佩服)
由於匯報完結後有問答環節,建議2個人主持匯報,太多人反而會造成混亂
由於課堂地點的電腦並沒有任何互聯網存取(被電腦管理員以群組原則鎖定了,即使使用手機的USB共享裝置也無法連上網絡),請務必把簡報儲存在移動裝置(如USB)並在匯報當日帶到課堂,還請列印一份簡報紙本給教授,方便教授批改
【Final Report】:
〘特事特辦〙由於課程名額爆滿,為了減輕教授工作量,Final Report由每人交一份改為每組交一份,字數大約800字,整份報告不能多於2版A4紙(正常列印,沒有分頁) ,內容就是Presentation時簡報的完整版資料

〔Laboratory Visit及Tutorial〕
地點為P1610,全部同學會分成不同組別(與Presentation的組別完全無關),由不同的導師示範4個實驗,計出席率,Visit完後要去指定課堂地點上Tutorial,導師不會講書,有問題不懂可以發問,沒有問題簽完名就可以離開,唔同組別有唔同時間表和地點,請參閱Canvas內相關文件

The lecturer is very helpful.
If you understand the concepts taught in lectures, you can get high marks in quizzes.
He can recognise who came to the lecture.
The presentation need to be interesting or something very hard to understand.
Good groupmates are also important.

2 quizzes:一份quiz大概5條LQ, 有問definition 同 principles, 問得幾仔細下,但完全唔駛計數,上堂聽書有幫助,改得幾鬆手下,因為我有條10-15分漏空唔識答,做好啲可能有A+啩

Project:
Presentation(10 mins present + 10 mins Q&A) + Report (at least 1200 words, max. 1500 words)
佢有題目比你參考,任何關於optics嘅嘢都做得,present完佢會問問題,回答嘅組員有分加;唔難做

Attendance: 唔take attendance 但佢上堂會講下quiz嘅嘢,所以佢都好鼓勵人上堂;上堂要靜,否則佢會點你相

內容:主要教光嘅特性,如reflection, refraction, dispersion, diffraction, rainbow formation, polarized rainbow,都會講下 laser, LED, blue-ray;深啲嘅嘢佢會講但唔考,例如energy level, quantum mechanics, just for your reference

Dr. Chow:好好人,有問必答,有心教,會預備好多實驗講解,試過夜晚十點send email去,佢唔駛五分鐘覆返我;上堂唔明你可以問Dr. Chow問到識為止

駛唔駛Physics 底:有會易啲上手,但冇我都覺得唔緊要,Dr. Chow講冇上堂嘅話,本科人都未必識做份quiz,所以比起phy 底,留心上堂較重要

總結:輕鬆,成日早放,冇乜壓力,當係phy/optics 入門課
