It is a very inspiring course that encourages us to start personal financial planning early for achieving the goal of financial freedom. The course is so practical that covers various aspects closely related to our daily life such as investment, housing, insurance, retirement and so on.

Individual assignment (20%): compare different credit cards and write a reflection on an article you selected about personal finance
It is not difficult. Just do some research about credit cards. Relate the selected article with what you have learnt in the course.

Group project (30%): provide a financial plan for the client in the case study
You should start to do it early since you need to spend much time on doing research in different aspects such as mortgage, health insurance plan and mutual fund. Assuming the project as a real case, you need to consider some realistic situations such as inflation, having kids after marriage and change in MPF after job promotion. After finishing the project, you will know more about how to make a sound financial plan.

Exam (50%): MC and long questions
The questions are quite straightforward. Put more effort into memorizing the concepts. Also, make sure that you understand how to do the calculations.

Stephanie is passionate about teaching and very well-prepared for the lectures. She provides lots of examples in daily life and sometimes shares her own experience. It does not only make the concepts more understandable but also make the lectures become more interesting. She teaches us numerous practical skills that can be applied in both the group project and our daily life.
Besides, she is very friendly and helpful. Since I am a science student, most of the concepts in the course are quite new to me so I usually have many questions to ask. She is always willing to help and give me some useful advice like suggesting some books and websites that are useful for me to learn more.

This course is highly recommended, especially for those who are not business students. You can be equipped with lots of useful knowledge after taking the course.

There are two assignments and an exam in this course. I am majoring in accountancy and find this course quite useful in planning for your own asset portfolio. I am honored to get the highest marks in both assignments so in turn getting the A+.

1) Individual Assignment (20%)
Mean 14.x Highest 18.x
It requires you to do a self reflection on a news related to finance. Any topics would be fine. But make sure you write more and include some other references such as graphs and charts about related concepts (e.g. time value of money). Not difficult to get marks above mean.

2) Group Project (30%)
Mean 23.x Highest 28.x
It requires you to draft a personal financial plan to a client which have some misconception on some saving/investment issues. You need to comments on his financial statement (cash flow statement, balance sheet, income statement) and his spending/saving behavior before you suggest ways for him to improve. You need to work on several planning such as insurance planning, tax planning, investment portfolio, etc. Better to search more real products and more content to enrich your financial plan. We wrote around 60 pages and spent around a week on it. Pay more effort as the group project will make your group stand out.

3) Exam (50%)
MC is generally not difficult with around 3-5 tricky questions. Long question is not difficult if you are allowed to use a financial calculator. We have formula sheet to be provided so the questions require you to apply the formula more than memorizing stuff. If you are familiar with the calculation and have a look on all powerpoint slides, it only takes you about an hour to finish the exam. Lots of people leave earlier.

Stephanie is quite nice and willing to share her own experience to us. We learn a lot of new terms which may not be heard in other courses (unless you study in finance major). Study in summer semester is quite harsh if you do not plan your time well (I am one of the deadline fighter-.-). It really takes some time to do a practical and feasible financial plan for the client.

(Non-BBA, but reged CB2100 before)

The course is not hard in the contexts. With a lot of dimensions to learn and weird classifications of the knowledge, you should not expect to know how to create a full map for this course.

PMF related report and research - average grading
Group Project - Same material for every group and average grading

Final Exam is a bit harsh as there are a lot of things about insurances (should be around 30%) which is not well-stressed. If you unluckily happen to do something stupid in the calculation prob, you should get 1 to 2 small grade less than your grpmates.

Steph is not going to teach this course again in a period of time.

as a computer science student, i found this ge course very useful as the course content covers different areas of managing personal finance(saving, budgeting, credits, mortgage, investment, retirement)

this is not an easy course for non-business students since it is a bit too technical, but hard work will help

slides are information, but sometimes lack detail, Mr Ho's explanation during the lectures do help one to understand them

mc questions are tricky to test if you really master the course material, be careful

getting a B grade is better than my expectation, thanks to my group mates

There are four parts in this courses:
Quiz
Assignment
Group project
Exam
Quiz is quiet difficult , even though I am BBA student , I only got 37/50(A grade)
Assignment (full marks), better find someone who have studied this course and give you resources
Gp-our group consulted Mr.Ho for many times, he is nice and smart, every time he can answer our questions and give meaningful advices. If you are hardworking and consult him frequently, you will get a good grade.
Exam-very hard! Some calculations even we haven’t learnt in class! If you have a good business sense, you can reg this course. If not, good luck!

in-class assignment after lessons, quite difficult and time-limited
if you have great time management and work hard, you can prepare well for mid-term and exam
it is not a good option if you want to get a good grade easily and effortlessly

Assignment 如下:
A Range

GE Course.

教你點樣係real life去plan自己嘅 investment portfolio, high return saving, insurance planning, etc

Group Project (30%) - 整一份 financial plan for a client, need to do research and calculation (PV, mpf, mortgage) 所以早少少start會好d , 同埋consult Stephanie
Final Exam (50%) - MC & Long q, MC 主要考concept, Long q both concept and calculation, d 題目吾算tricky, 只要肯比兩日時間溫下書同記清楚d concept, above 75/100 , 吾大問題

GE Course, highly recommend GE1202:)

I found the calculations pretty hard at first (I am not good at calculating things, I'd never even used the 'log' button on my calculator before I took this course), but with practice it turned out to be pretty straightforward calculations.

The MCQs were pretty fucking hard. I had no idea what most of the choices were, even though we were allowed 2 sides of cheat sheets. They were mostly about niche terms and stuff. I am not a business, finance or accounting student.

If you're looking to take this course cuz you think it's gonna be useful in real life, it's not really THAT useful. It mainly deals with different types of investments that you may or may not make in the future rather than stuff that's immediately relevant. And who are we kidding, I'm poor af. I'm not gonna be buying stocks or property anytime soon.

As a business student, I think this course is not hard, especially to those who have taken Financial Management. The workload is not high, only a project, an investment report and an assignment about mortgage. The exam is not difficult, the math part is very straight-forward, and the MC mainly tests your memory. The teacher is very nice and always willing to help.

HO is a very nice tutor who will answer your questions seriously. However, this course is really hard for students, especially not from BBA program.
In-class quizes, presentations and the final exam are all with great difficulty.(complex calculations and wide knowledge field)

All in all, a useful and good course but be careful to reg.

It is really a very interesting course.

In-class quizes are very nice and easy.(Only a little bit calculations and some short-answer questions)

Group project is very attractive, easy to handle.

Final exam is not as hard as students say,I did not do much revision (maybe just 5 hours in total).

I think if you listen to classes carefully it is easy to get at least B+.

In-class assignments (Best 8 out of 11 assignments graded) 20%
Group Project (Scenario-based) 30%
Final Exam 50%

Found in-class assignments somewhat difficult.
Group project is interesting.
Final exam was super hard, but the professor takes the difficulty into consideration.

In-class assignments were what made the workload a little heavy.
Apart from them, it was good overall.

Hence, I recommend.
