2018/19 Sem A

B+

呢科學既主要係煮野食涉及到既chem
有底既人學好簡單 無底既信相都會無問題 因為大部份都係中學junior science
只有tutorial會take attendance 而d professor講野都幾無聊(得頭幾堂得意)
而workload就有2份individual reports
一份係關於field visit 個visit可以免費狂食豆腐花 旅遊巴接送
另一份係關於tasting experience
d professor會煮牛排比你食 同埋可以試酒 個人覺得都幾好玩
最尾仲有份gp project 要拍片煮野食 同埋要了解入面既原理 Q&A d 問題都唔算難
而exam只要有溫就識做 都係背下野only

但有一點唔好既係 d assignment既guidelines唔係好清楚 無格式 又唔知大概要寫咩
而且我唔知自己d assignment同gp project做成點 佢透明度唔高
但總括黎講,呢科係比人hea既科 輕鬆咁讀有B+ 無咩負擔

Strongly discourage people without Chemistry background to study this course.

2 field trip reports + 1 project (presentation + Q&A)

The exam criteria is uncertain and you will never know your marks until the grade is released.

Project Q&A very important, the professor will challenge your presentation with raising some difficult question.

Have past paper, revise = pass exam

Not taking attendance except for the 3 presentation weeks

*Don't have chemistry background at all, study very hard and do past paper but only can secure a C+*

上lecture通常早放,唔take attendance。氣氛都算輕鬆,大家做下自己野。
成個sem有兩個活動要參加。一個參觀豆腐花工廠,2頁report;第二個tasting experiment,4頁report。兩個活動剩係隔咗一個星期,仲要喺最忙嘅1、2個禮拜。雖然唔heavy但有d壓力。會take attendance。
present 1-3人一組。就係講一個菜式入面有咩化學原理,要拍3分鐘片。要返。
exam就MC+Long Q,做下past paper,就認得4成題目。背曬d notes就差唔多。
講好靚grade,但失敗。推薦有chem底先好讀,最好揾朋友一齊present。
最伏係兩份report要講到嘅原理要做曬、交曬先教...如果攞到上年嘅Notes記得唔識就喺入面揾左先。

上堂教你點樣煮野食會好食d 同埋教下背後嘅科學原理 都幾悶 不過可以走堂 因爲唔計attendance
中學有讀bio 同chem會着數d 因為教d野大部分一樣
有field vist 同tasting experience
要交兩份report(30%) 冇guidance 唔知要寫到幾深入 同埋兩份report都係冇grade 完全唔知自己做成點
Present要拍片麻煩d 不過內容可以完全上網搵 但係自己一定要明d內容 q&a都幾難
Exam d mc同上幾年d問題差唔多 做下past paper 背下就ok

2016/17 Sem A

A

有field trip,tasting experience 要寫report,presentation同考試,但 其實唔難,只要操past paper就okay
考試前都聽到人話伏科,但其實只要有溫書就可以,有冇biochem底其實分別唔大,都係背野多,少考理論

2016/17 Sem A

本身有理科底,讀起黎幾易,都係初中程度既Chem, Bio 野
上堂輕鬆有趣,成日播好睇又好食既片,可以做自己野
Field visit, tasting experience, group present 要點名,平時可以走堂
Assignment 同Group Project 上網google 就得
Present 要預早練,因為Present勁人好多
同埋要完全理解自己講緊D野,因為Prof 會問好深入既問題
Exam 幾容易,建議先由Pastpaper 入手,因為不斷翻炒

2015/16 Sem B

B-

呢科一D 透明度都冇,有兩份Individual reports, 兩份都唔話你知個grade 係幾多,考試自問覺得考得唔錯,Turned out B- ,真係死左都唔知咩事

2015/16 Sem A

B+

Two individual reports within 2 A4 pages (about field trip and tasting section), discuss the scientific knowledge behind, mainly about Chem and a bit Bio. All information can be found through research.
Both activities were quite entertaining.
No Quiz.
One presentation at the end of the semester, video-typed the making of one food and present the knowledge behind. My group's video is good, but struggled a bit during Q&A. The tutors did ask serious questions.
Final exam contains 40MC and four short Q/essay. Both are extremely straightforward, if you study hard and remember all the notes, you will definitely get high scores.
No attendance is marked. If you have Chem and Bio background, you could understand the notes even if you skip class.
Overall speaking, it's a really relaxing GE course and could learn a lot about food science. Highly recommend~

2015/16 Sem A

A-

Not very harsh, 2 self reports (tofu & tasting report) and 1 group present
Exam many MCs and few long questions
Didn't perform very well on presentation but still have this result
Basic chem and bio knowledge are preferred

2014/15 Sem B

B+

It is very interesting ge course. If you love or are interested in chemistry and eating, please register this course.
Two report about tofu and tasting experience respectively
One present . take a 2-3 mins video about any food and explain the science principle and reaction related to how make the taste better.
A group present how to cook instant noodle, please don't do similar things with them, it is not is a sensible act. Also, they present wrong knowledge, please check your information and ensure they are strong enough to persuade professor.
Exam is very easy.
One thing need to improve is the uncertainty about the grading. We don't receive any mark or detail about the assignment, presentation or examination.

總括而言,
活動一是食豆腐花同睇睇點樣整,
要寫—份分析豆腐成形的報告,
其實講落D咩材料,有D咩用,
Dr. Siu話下年都係去e道。
活動二是食牛排,糖果,雪糕,同飮紅酒,白酒
,又要寫份報告關四樣之一的科學原理同埋有咩因素影響味道,D野估計年年差唔多啦。
Present要煮一碟餸同解釋背後科學原理,同點煮好味D,有组員病左冇來到,pre到頭暈。但係焦糖爆谷,好多人話好食,好恩惠,我見到有人帶埋泡菜來,好利害。
考試睇你溫唔溫書,超淺,有兩三條難D,唔明就問professor同Dr.s

2014/15 Sem B

B

有CHEM底, 覺得d reports(20%)難過presentation同exam (80%), 課程ok有趣好玩(尤其係presentation),自己滿意d reports﹑present同exam, 覺得最少有B+, 但最後就攞左個B,對於呢科GE COMMENT 係: 死左都唔知咩事~因為真係唔知d導師點俾分~哈哈~ 不過,讀得呢科就好好ENJOY過程,唔好太介意分數, 如果唔係只會唔開心~

完全唔知點解B-, 以為有B+, 因為exam都覺得簡單,識做,平時d field report, tasting experience report都好易做,但唔知點解B-左

平時上堂都只係上兩個鐘,其實冇tutorial,上堂會有片睇點整野食先整得好,科學原理係解釋的關鐽,功課就只係去完field trip 同 tasting experience 先各交一份一版紙嘅report, 呢兩個活動都有得食野,幾好玩呀,最後有個presentation(ppt+video) 係要用科學原理去講解點樣整一個菜式,仲有個final exam ,不過溫晒lecture notes就一定識(本身係讀science,有d chem 野就梗係啊洗溫啦)

識chem,bio去讀呢科就有d 著數嘅(因為可以溫少一兩份lecture notes),不過好多野都好易理解,唔需要識chem/bio先明

總之呢科就好有趣啦!
