A

Hannah Brant teaches very well, offering clear instructions on what we should do. For many beginners in academic writings, she leads her student to write with highest accuracy. Though many students may not be very articulate in English and she knows no Cantonese, she is able to untangle the communication knots by asking meaningful questions, suggesting new ways of writing and talking about an issue. Very little stress and absolutely inspiring. Where can we find a better teacher?

A good professor or lecturer can be reasonably strict, but Airlie Heung is unreasonably restrictive. No creativity, no critical thinking, no sophistication. She asks so much from her students but does not seem to care so much about how she teaches and what she delivers.

I feel very sorry for my classmates who score even lower than me -- it's not their problems, it's Airlie Heung, who looks down on her own students.

Pieta係個種會偏心overseas既tutor,對local既要求比較嚴同惡,同一樣野對兩邊既態度都唔同。上堂唔可以玩電話,唔可以走堂遲到早退,有功課,會逐個逐個捉嚟答問題。總之係Pieta到上堂,佢個人nice唔nice係根據佢當日既心情,躁起嚟可以相當得人驚,你group disscusion耐左佢會因為遲收工而唔耐煩黑面。而且比分相當嚴謹,我infographic同essay 1st draft都係得C-D range,用左好多心機先係last essay拉翻個course既分上B-
總之係一個中小學式教育既tutor

PS.呢到同shakespeare個邊都見唔少佢既打手,不如試下要登入證明reg左佢個class先寫到review啦⋯⋯

Airlie is a bad teacher. She has poor background knowledge that she often seems to forget about the content of the lectures. For this reason, she is incapable of leading any meaningful discussion. She teaches very poor writing skills -- she forces everyone to write in a very unsophisticated style. Unlike most other professors and instructors in university, she discourages students from having critical thinking and independent thoughts. As long as your interpretation or understanding about an issue is different, for her, it is wrong. She also commits quite many spelling errors and grammatical mistakes in writing.

She does not write very well. But in this course of University English, you are supposed to learn how to write essays well. She will harm your academic growth.

How to get A from her if you have unfortunately chosen her?
1, Write like a secondary school student. Don't be creative.
2, Find out what she like. Don't try to be 'even a little bit critical' of her ideas.
3, Don't assume you will be fine with her even if you used to get As from other teachers. She has poor background knowledge -- this makes it extremely difficult for her to understand your essays. You need to STATE THE OBVIOUS all the time.
4, FORGET ABOUT BEING A UNIVERSITY STUDENT WITH HER. She does not have the standard academic level.
5, She fails to explain basic concepts. Lower your expectation. You won't learn much from her.
6, DO NOT TRUST HER MARKINGS. She tends to overlook what students write -- she deducts your marks for the mistakes that you haven't made.

THE BEST OF ALL: DROP HER CLASS ASAP.

她並不是一個好老師。
這樣說,並不只因為她打分數極低,而是她本身缺乏教大學的能力。譬如,她對基本的學術概念含糊不清,以致經常朗讀powerpoint slides; 她經常串錯生字,並有文法文的錯誤; 她改卷時極隨意,基本上沒有細看就單憑主觀感覺打分數。

她不能夠接受與她不同的想法。與一般大學課程講求批判思考能力的教授或instructors不一樣,她根本對於與自己不同的想法看不上眼。上課的時候,或許因為她根本沒有什麼話說,所以會鼓勵學生發言,但是如果妳以為這是她鼓勵邏輯思考、批判思維的表現,你寫essays時很容易就會寫出一些她不喜歡的東西。

寫作結構必須像一個中學生。如果你對自己的學術文章有點要求,想超越中學生的寫作模式的話,千萬不要成為她的學生。她甚至會比你中學的老師更保守。

整體來說,她不適合當大學教師。她似乎對教育、學術水平沒有半點熱情。

如果你想要好老師的話,千萬不要上她的課; 如果你想要好grade,選她的風險亦非常高; 如果你覺得趣趣便便什麼都好,她或許還可以吧!

盡早drop她任教的科目。如果太遲,就僅記寫essays只寫她喜歡的,忘掉創意忘掉自己吧!

Mable好好人,上堂幾有趣,佢有時又會自己講講下自己笑下咁。
功課都比得幾鬆手,基本上你跟足佢指示同essay搵多少少資料就完全無問題,佢又會勁好有一對一consultation,完全講曬first draft有咩問題,照著佢所講去改就得。只有你係正常人一個,上堂積極少少拿下注意就保證唔會爛grade. UE tutor推薦!

Cindy was a bit annoying. She liked to check every part of our drafts and presentation. Also, she likes to talk a lot about basic writing skills and her personal experience. However, she was eager to give comments about your writing and help you to get a good grade. I got a B+ simply because I was late for handing my last assignment

She always smiles and well-prepared for the lesson. Passionate in teaching and very nice. At first, I enjoyed her lessons. She always accomplishes our writings as well.

However, we were very shocked after the grade has released. We paid lots of effort and surely the grade should not be like this. Classmates from other classes, generally, higher grade than us.

In Chinese, we can say it '糖衣毒藥'.

比分極嚴格,個mean可以同其他班差3-4分(20分滿分),連first language係英文既外地生功課都係岩岩及格,結果我自己過班mean就出c+。上堂極之無聊,對ppt照讀,但係佢好like nds,建議唔係nds或想hea既就唔好reg佢,個人認為係大伏killer一個。

我頭4堂無上
(因為一開頭見同FD一樣時段,以為同班, 所以就一齊上
去錯左去同一個時段第二個SESSION嘅UE, 柒到爆)
不過之後到我知道自己一直去錯SESSION我先EMAIL番佢, 同佢解釋
之後就去番呢班
一黎到呢班UE D人都好熟, 好有中學FEEL LOL 可能教授係比較中意輕鬆同互動嘅人
所以呢班UE開埋WHATSAPP GROUP
不過上佢堂好多時候都係玩LOL 但其實我自己唔太中意玩
--功課方面--
essay我真心deadline前寫, 無咩比心機
佢好似俾我地consult左一次, 不過佢consult左=無consult
無咩俾意見(佢係我地見佢之前無睇過我篇ESSAY)
我題目係寫中學應唔應該強制學生參與同宗教信仰有關嘅活動
內容一般 GRAMMAR無咩點執過LOL
好好奇點解有B+, 聽人講佢係KILLER

我覺得功課上佢未必幫到你拎好GRADE
不過如果想上堂好玩佢都幾好
同埋有時佢講野都幾啟發性
最尾果堂佢直頭唔教野, 開P , 不過當日中學SPEECH DAY無去到

Nice teacher, not much in class assignments, mainly group discussion. I don't have a perfect attendance, I skipped 2 lessons, I guess that's why my grade is low.
But he is not a generous marker, everyone got a low score for the infographics and essays.

In general, he is a nice teacher but a harsh marker.

個人認為工作量算少,要做的事我基本是前一兩日或當日才做,分數一般,因為英文不算好(dse4,writing 4)。至於tutor,他很nice,但好像什麼都沒有教過,對於功課,他也沒什麼guidelines和意見,所以想topic的時候有點迷惘。還有,想topic時,真的要想好(先認真找好sources才定下topic),不要半途轉。
無論如何,還是建議reg他。我看到grade的時候還是有點驚喜。
還有關於participation,因為我口語不好,從來都不會主動回答問題,只是他點名問我,我才說兩句。上課有時會有in-class writing,有些我還沒寫好就交上去(因為趕著去吃飯,哈哈),或者hea寫,不過看來這些對我的grade影響不大。
細分:
1,infographic (忘了,只是記得是在b-的range裡)
2,First Revision Soft Copy(15/20)
3,Final Draft(18.75/25)
4,Reflective Report(16.5/20)
感覺自己的essay寫得不好,不過當時我花了時間作出大修改,顯得有點誠意,估計因為這點,我在Revision的分數不錯,而他也提到這點。

【Final Argumentative Essay】:約1000字,必須使用正確的APA6引用格式,MLA不接受,屋企做,續寫Draft,細微修改,當然也可以改題目重新寫過篇,不過我覺得Tutor可能會因此俾低分(要佢重頭睇一次),直接Soft Copy上載Canvas既Turn-In系統(部分Tutor要你交埋Hard Copy,但Noble唔使)

後記:100%出席率,DSE英文整體得4(4434),UE攞到B+算多謝Noble了,可能有人覺得佢俾分好緊,我就唔系好覺。另外Noble覆電郵超快手,我打Essay打到夜晚12點幾,覺得有疑問就寄左電郵俾Noble,第2日開翻電郵,佢1點幾已經覆左我,好勤力既Tutor(垃圾Cityu Email除左問野同激活Office之外就是然並卵),可惜GE2410遇唔到佢,真心多謝佢教左半年英文,學識點用APA6

Cindy 好好人,有問題問email 佢,佢都會好詳細答。但上堂預左會悶,同埋佢係individual consultation 比嘅 comments 唔好跟到十足十,佢D suggestions 用字好多都係好簡單,未必一定係最好嘅option,聽完自己再諗下跟唔跟。
