2016/17 Sem B

ummm其实我是2016/2017summer上的这门课,现在写留言还没有选项,就选到了semB。

我来上这么课前多方打听,没有内地生来上过,GE指南上的东西也不充沛,所以当时也就算是为了兴趣试试水。也给以后上2248的同学提供一点感受,仅做参考。

assessment分为四块,essay一篇,quiz一次(50个MC),pre3一次,四次课堂assessment。

essay不算很难写,材料需要认真找。quiz考的很泛泛,需要全面认真阅读课件。也是我主要做的不好的地方,自己复习还是不太到位。pre3会分给不同的组不同的topic,我们7人一组,分到的是说服政府把资金用到我们希望的方向。

我们七人都是year1,没有CB的成员,拿到的是B到A-的分数,所以给分应该不算差,如果有marketing的大腿,或是year2/3/4的学长姐来上,应该是更得心应手的。

2016/17 Sem B

Tutor:
- Quite nice in normal conversation
- Rigid and not generous when it comes to grading and Q&A
- Clumsy in verbal explanation,
you have to pay attention during the whole lesson
(i fell asleep when she started talking about a slide, when I woke up,
she was still explaining the concept of that slide lol)

Lecture:
- Forming a group of 8 ppl before the lesson in week 3
- Inflexible number of groupmate
(must be 8, no room for negociation)
- Group worksheet nearly in each week
- Attendance taken in each lesson
(Raine would come to your group and count the number of "heads")
- Lecture notes: with spaces / boxes that you need to fill-in during lecture
And the points that already stated on notes are very theoretical,
Raine provides example and further elaboration during lecture.
Therefore, Raine's verbal explanation is important. You must pay attention
in the 2/3-hour lecture)

Assignment:
- MC Quiz, very tricky
- Individual assignment X1:
Search a persuasive speech (in form of text / video), and write a report
evaluating the skills being used by applying the concept taught in lectures
To be submitted via Turnitin
- Group project X1:
10 groups in total, with group number assigned:
--> Groups 1-5:
Assume you are working in a charity organization and your job is
to persuade the audiences to donate money to your charity
organization. You can choose any charity organization to work on.
--> Groups 6-10:
Suppose the governmentis going to launcha new fund scheme,
which aims to provide financial support to the needy in the
society. Thefund committee members have a keen discussion
on which types/groups of needy should be helped. Assume
you are the committee members and have the preference on a
particular type/group of needy. You job is to persuade the Board
members to support your view and allocate the fund to
your preferred needy.
--> only presentation, no report
--> presentation slides have to be submitted 24 hours before presentation
--> Very "chur" during Q&A session after presentation
She didnt listen to our verbal explanation during presentation,
as we are presenting, she only read our presentation slides (hard copy),
but for simplicity of slide, some elaborations and points are not covered
on slides. During Q&A, the questions she asked showed that she totally
misunderstood what we present)
--> TIPS: for the measures u suggested in presentation,
she will ask in detail, it should be very practical

It's a good course in terms of knowledge
& application in daily life. For group presentation, it is important
to think of practical and detail measures you "proposed".

2016/17 Sem A

B

This course mainly have 4 things to do:
1. In-class assignment/discussion (20%)
For most of the lessons, there are a worksheet for you and your groupmates to complete. The tutor also use it as a tool to take attendance. The tutor also required everyone to have at least 70% attendance (i.e. do not skip more than 3 - 4 lessons)

2. Individual Paper (20%)
Basically ask you to find a speech or article that are trying to persuade others. then, making use of the theory and concept taught in lectures and write up an essay, taking about how good that article/speech is. Very easy though.

3. In-class Quiz at Week 11 (30%)
A quiz in M.C. Questions covers the concept taught in lectures. If you review the lecture notes once before the quiz, you can basically get 75% of the answer correct. The remaining 15% depends on whether you really listen carefully on what Rainie said in lectures.
Thats why I only got B, cuz i fell asleep in majority of her lectures (its 09:00 am lesson!)

4. Group Project Presentation (30%)
This is the most challenging part of this course.
First, it is REALLY IMPORTANT that you have/ can find a good teammates.
If you encounter freeriders, basically you are done. (although Rainie provides peer-evaluation forms)
Presentation based on a topic given, and your task is to persuade your audience (i.e. the fellow students), and after the presentation, Rainie and some students may ask you questions based on your presentation. Better prepare it well, as the oral presentation and how you respond in the Q and A section determines the grade.
Also, remember to submit the PPT slide on-time, as if you are late, 50% of the marks will be deducted.

Overall speaking, this course is pretty useful and are not demanding, but its better to have some friends to take this course with you!

我吾知係我冇bussiness嘅低定因為咩 上堂淨係覺得好悶 仲要係九點堂真係好難吾訓 自問吾係freeride又有gpmate carry 應該係個quiz出事

伏伏地既, 聽到都有幾組遲交project, 因為raine係project deadline前12個鐘先開canvas link比人upload, 仲要係晚上先開, 之後個日既中午12:00前就要交,
佢開個陣係星期日23:48,要同學星期一早上11:59交, 有幾組同學留意唔到條link, 遲左少少交, raine話會扣project一半分

唔走得堂, 有exercise做
有個quiz
Individual report
Project

會on canvas頻密過on whatsapp既, 可以reg下 :)

2016/17 Sem A

A-

workload:
一份assignment(三版紙),一個group presentation(唔駛寫report),一個close book quiz,仲有平時上堂每堂都會有啲exercise當take attendance用

- 最好唔好走堂,但係平時上堂幾輕鬆,raine都講得幾生動haha
- close book quiz個人覺得幾難幾tricky,攞到A-其實有啲surprised
- assignment算ok,唔係好難handle
- group present 八個人一組,as long as有幾個人做嘢就ok,有一兩個freerider都算manageable,況且有peer evaluation

總括而言係一個幾值得讀嘅course

呢堂好實用
教你點樣去說服人地 唔單只係sell skills咁簡單
又容易拎grade 拉grade之選
只有一個individual report 3頁計埋reference
同埋50條mc
最緊要準時同唔好走堂

2014/15 Summer

A-

有quiz, individual assignment, project
Quiz 全mc
Project 題目二選一, 一係介紹一間慈善機構並游說觀眾捐款,一係就設計一種基金幫有需要人士,游說觀眾贊助;都幾好玩
assignment 要搵一個公眾人士游說其對象時既策略,分析佢係咪具說服力;只要運用課上所學,應該可以輕鬆應付
導師健談,處事俐落,交proj/assignment 前咨詢佢都好樂意答問題
授課內容都幾得意,例子貼近生活,學習點樣加強說服力,值得一試!
每堂都計attendance

2014/15 Sem B

B

上堂其實好hea 不過因為會tick attendance同做in-class所以都要返
總共1份individual report, 1份group pj講下啲case用左咩persuasion skills同埋一次mid-term
Mid-term有啲係平時inclass做過 可以溫返
Daisy好care tick attendance 所以唔好叫fd幫你tick 佢會head count人數
Presentation都有A-但出到黎得B 應該係mid-term影響到

呢科最緊要上足堂
因為差唔多堂堂都有d in class做下 (答下幾條mc, 做下d personality tests咁),
通常一個佔一兩分咁
你一定要有番去上堂先可以做 因為佢會認真點名

workload算細, 1個group present(唔洗hard copy) + 1份individual report(1k words)
+ 1個完sem mc quiz

學左既野都幾有用 對persuasion有興趣既人可以reg
