2017/18 Sem B

B

This subject is only useful if you are really interested in the curriculum and are expected to possess certain level of fundamental knowledge in the field of civil engineering.

Jason to a certain extent is an excellent teacher in terms of his passion yet is far from praise-worthy in terms of giving clear instructions and proper delivery of lecture. It's not interactive and drive people to sleep.

Guidelines were not given and has broken his promise in setting the questions within the scope.

2017/18 Sem B

A

Although i have done a lot of extra works or join extra activities that he recommended, it is so hard to get A+. However,overall, Dr Jason is a very charm, social and prestigious professor. His lecture is so useful and down to earth.

2016/17 Sem B

A-

利申我係2017/18 Sem B take, 但呢度得2016/17 Sem B揀。

同大家一樣都覺得Jason係一個幾nice嘅as a person, 但nice又唔代表好嘅as a professor。

midterm + final: 大家可以無視平時上堂既notes, jason會擺一大堆notes上canvas, 但midterm同final前佢會開個新folder, 入面會有四個files左右, 你只需要溫果四份notes就可以考試接近滿分。midterm同final都只會得4-5條好簡單既short questions。

project先係最大嘅問題。一開sem, Jason叫我地自己搵題目, 當時堂都未上, 真係唔知有咩揀。send email去consult佢, 原來佢一早有既定既topic想我地揀, 咁我係無問題嘅 (我知好多人會想做自己揀嘅題目, 但sorry, 呢科係有篩選嘅普選)。基本上全班都係做walkability, Jason send出黎嘅emails都多數係關walkability事。project內容係去諗點樣improve香港既walkability, 學生要做嘅就係去香港十幾條行人路數人數, 呢一part都幾time-consuming, 之後suggest要唔要喺foot paths度加cover。

其實一個咁易做嘅project, 基本上全班嘅內容都係大同小異, 換言之midterm, final, project都係分唔到高下嘅。要記住, reg得呢班嘅人好多都係想拎A+, 因為Jason一開始講到明會俾A+同A, 大家都好Chur。

呢個project嘅問題係, Jason應該係今年先諗咁樣design個project, 搞到當中好多細節佢都係即興諗出黎。一開始又叫我地要conduct一份survey, 之後又話唔洗, 之後又話要, 佢話佢會design埋survey俾我地, 點知present前兩日佢先同我地講: 「我都係覺得你地自己design會好d, 因為咁先分到高下。」利申, 我今個sem讀18 cred嘅, 如果科科個professor都咁即興, 我真係一日有四十八小時都唔掂。

individual assignment:
你主要係要講吓你會點做個project, 去到交assignment時, 我諗jason都唔太知自己想個project點樣, 咁所以呢份野都係亂吹, 總之你份野睇落正正常常都唔會太差。

extra points:
呢科野有趣嘅地方在於Jason喺week13時announce一樣野: 大家可以幫佢做count人數黎gain extra points! (應該係因為佢有research需要) 注意返, Jason會叫大家考緊final時去幫佢count人數, 意思係你要出某幾條foot paths度, 每條企一個鐘, 數吓有一個鐘有幾多人行過。你幫佢做就有extra points。我自己就有六個final exams, 如果真係幫佢做埋, 我諗就算呢科A+都無鬼用, gpa一定爛。所以呢, 我果組係無做嘅, 而唔知extra points同grade嘅關係大唔大, 我成group大部分人都係A-!

同埋我自己都覺得咁樣幾唔公平, 一個course考核嘅本應係一個學生各方面嘅能力同知識, 而唔係講緊你肯唔肯時間去幫professor做research/extra work which may be irrelevant to knowledge itself (can you learn anything by doing pedestrian count? obviously no) 即使呢幾分Extra points係佔一個course嘅好小部份, 我都認為唔應該出現。

呢科野係靚grade嘅, 但如果求first hon/A+/A嘅人就自己諗諗佢喇。

Jason:
我覺得佢係一個好有知識嘅人, 畢竟佢喺urban planning呢行工作過, 而且亦識好多行內嘅人, 例如我地上堂曾經有guest speaker黎講吓urban planning實際係點做。佢亦講過自己會去McKinsey (三大consulting firms之一) present, 俾左好多presentation slides我地學野。如果你真係好想學關於urban planning嘅知識, 呢科十足適合你, 佢有時間嘅話都好願意share更多 (不過most of the time佢係無時間嘅)。仲有, 如果大家係好鍾意consult professor project嘅人, sorry, 佢唔岩你, 每次佢都係深夜四五點先會覆email, 或者隔幾日, 佢一日到黑都好BUSYYYY嘅。不過佢態度真係好, 唔會有種「我係professor, 唔得閒答你d垃圾問題」嘅感覺。

2016/17 Sem B

A-

Jason一開始就promise我地好grade,佢都有show比我地睇佢上個sem比學生嘅grade,基本上B+或以上無難度,所以全程我都輕鬆上。
呢科最唔討好就係望落好多嘢做,有individual assignment,有midterm,有 group project report 同presentation,仲有 exam。但事實全部都唔係難嘢,份individual真係做5版就ok,我當佢LS啲essay咁寫。Midterm得幾題,而且有温佢high light嗰啲ppt就一定會識,背少少嘢嘅定義就ok。group project 都係每人present五分鐘加report幾版紙,佢會因應你嗰group嘅人數而增加或減少你workload呢點我覺得幾好。exam就同midterm差唔多,都係温佢叫你温嗰啲就ok,考唔夠一個鐘啲人就走晒,因為真係照背。
但我就覺得要佢留低印象可能會有幫助,因為同我同組有個好中意呢科成日問jason問題,雖然佢唔係堂堂反齊,份project做嘅part亦唔係特別好特別突出,但jason可能對佢印象深啲,比咗A+佢。
總之,想拉gpa就泥讀呢科啦,輕輕鬆鬆又可以知多啲LS嘢。

2016/17 Sem B

A-

有好多野做,INDIVIDUAL GROUP PROJECT,MID TERM,EXAMINATION
INDIVIDUAL 10%, MID TERM 20%, EXAMINATION 30%, GROUP PROJECT 40% (PRESENTATION 15%,PROJECT 25%)
MID TERM同EXAM都係佢上堂講嘅野,同埋佢會係MID TERM EXAM前UPLOAD會考邊幾份NOTES,只要背晒溫熟晒就一定識
INDIVIDUAL同GROUP PROJECT最好有關係,咁你就唔會有太重WRKLOAD
GROUP PROJECT 大約10頁, PRESENTATION每人5分鐘
INDIVIDUAL就每人5頁

2015/16 Sem B

A

1. 第一堂Jason 就Promise 靚grade 呢個係岩既
2. Lecturer 幾nice 幾有料 但係好少人聽佢講野 好可惜
3. 話就話唔take attendance 但係來來去去都係個D人番 到presentation佢唔認得你 你唔好望會有咩好grade
4. 自問LS 唔得 冇常識 冇point 既人勿reg
5. Assignment 同做IES 冇分別 幾好做同易做
6. Exam/ mid term 好淺 其實就係jason upload 上去既幾個file D 野背默咁寫番落去
有睇過一定識
7. 所以end up 唔靚 grade 只能怪自己少少努力都唔肯付出

p.s. 建議take 番attendance 但係唔好tick 左就算 有答問題會加分個種
因為學生有聽既話 對佢地黎講係得益

雖然得到個grade好好,但老實講上過咁多ge最唔鐘意呢科。其實由第一日係Hall上堂就知係伏,因為咁大hall最後得20人reg,奈何我係wk 2 reg,迫著讀黎畢業。

不滿的地方好多,最主要原因係我覺得學唔到野。上堂我好多時真係唔知佢教緊咩,唔係d野難,係佢講野成日會突然轉話題:自己以前係HKU教書點、做CEO顧問時點、出席活動時見到董建華家族時點...諸如此類,話題轉去,就好似final exam咁又話有又話冇然後又話有,ass又話group 轉 individual再轉group/ individual,次次上堂我都覺好煩。

而且我真係計過時。我地上9點,我每次都好準時,半班同學都好準時,而佢如previous comment所講,超忙,每堂都遲10分鐘先拎杯Starbucks入場,搞埋電腦成搭三四先開始,然後講d唔多重要既自己野或者重覆左N次既ass group or individual 、 exam 內容黎講到10點就放break,10:10先正式教書。

真正學到野係我自修search資料時,尤其係個兩份會攞你命既assignments。Exam佢真係出得好容易,但assignment對我呢d讀文科既人黎講真係好繁重。Individual 10 pages, final project 15 pages + 10 mins presentation。滿滿10頁15頁紙,做的research 真係好多,份final 有成33條 reference。如果你以為group會好d,唔見得,因為佢係按人頭計,3人group 30 pages + 30 mins presentation。做到你傻!

2014/15 Sem B

Jason 算係一個幾nice既lecturer, 之前個project 係individual 咁做, 同佢講返之後佢比我地分group / individual 做。
有d特別野要講:
1. 其實個course 原本冇寫要Final Exam,但係week 3/4 先通知我地有exam......Add/drop period 過左先至先斬後奏......Jason話係department 要求。 :(
2. Course Material 佢會響上堂前既午夜至朝早up上canvas
3. 冇attendance,不過有presentation 而佢唔認得你既話....... (全班around 20人)
4. 雖然又midterm 又 exam , 但係Jason 會抽返要考既ppt 出黎比我地 (原本有30-40份course documents) (Midterm: 2 ppt, Final Exam: 3-4 ppt)
5. Jason 成日強調呢個係GE黎,想大家盡量唔太辛苦,同埋比好grade
6. 如果大家係鍾意瘋狂consult,Jason 唔arm 你,因為佢感覺上好忙
7. 話就話Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering既GE,實際上唔洗計數,d concept亦好簡單
