呢科係SEEM Major core黎 但仲難過D core 其他major同學唔好揀
成個course係到畫圈圈 唔知學左咩
OpenBook exam都冇用

2017/18 Sem B


Sherman is easily one of the most caring professors. He is kind and considerate and knows all his students by name.
The course is very abstract. It's actually rather easy, but if you're as anxious as me, you can easily overthink things and make things harder than they need to be because the guidelines aren't always very clear.
As with any GE course, very important to have a good group with you. The group assignment and the final group report can be demanding. However, Sherman, as he is in most aspects, is rather kind with the grading.

2016/17 Summer


The arrangement is changed during the class time. Part of the grade for HW and PJ is changed into group assignment.

Participation: as long as you stay in the classroom, you are permitted an 8%. However, many of the classmates do not appear in the summer term.

HW: To analyze the different cases provided in the course. Not hard and the answer will be provided in the discussion. You can hand in your note if you use a computer to take them.

Group Assignment: A new part but an easy part. Use Vensim to draw the virus transmission model.

PJ: A big or small question. As there are only 16 people in the class, 2 of the groups including us take environmental problems as our topic. The presentation is around 40 minutes per group.

Examination: As a year 1 student, I first met the situation that two examinations in the same venue. The examination is like an essay, actually. To explain terms and write your model, which is a little bit tiring.

The professor is kind and humorous. It's easy to like this course and like him. I used to think about late drop as no one I know had taken this course before, but the grade... I think I didn't make a wrong choice :)

P.S. I was doing a full-time job on campus, thus I don't really care about this course too much. I'd like to say this course is funny and easy to take.

2016/17 Summer


呢個course係SEM major其中一個core course, topic係system thinking,即係要諗有乜野可以影響一個event,跟住呢個event會引起d乜野又會影響番呢個event,形成causal loop(s),就咁講真係幾抽象,唔知up乜,而且好講logical thinking,變左成件事好LS feel

1. homework assignment
2. group assignment
係application of VemSim,一個整causal loop diagram同simulation既software。要做既就係將一個case既causal loop diagram用VenSim畫出黎,再sub番唔同情況落去個software度,形成一個report
3. group project - report+presentation
自選題目,最好做social或者其他比較貼身既topic,選題時要諗清楚可唔可以形成causal loops,咁樣係做pj既時期會順利d
4. examination
open-book,除左lecture notes, assignment+answer key同堂上自己抄既手寫notes之外,建議帶埋字典,唔好失埋d冤枉分,不過個exam唔算易,concept要清
5. attendance
好簡單,唔好走堂,正正常常都會有8分(10分滿分),active participation就可以攞埋淨低果2分

不過始終呢個course都係開左2個sem (16/17 sem b+summer),curriculum同exam既難度有機會再有fine tuning

所以成個curriculum未係好成熟 唔係好知究竟可以學到D咩
Sherman好俾心機教 亦都歡迎大家問問題
但內容相對上難理解 而且所學內容冇明確指引/方向
每1-2星期有一個assignment 有group project同埋exam
group project自由定題 apply所學知識落去個project
但其實大家都唔係好明學緊D咩 所以成件事就變左好迷失
exam唔夠時間做 亦都唔知答D咩先拎到分 做完都唔知自己究竟有冇炒
總括而言個人認為都幾伏 雖然Sherman好好人又好helpful 出黎個grade都唔算差 但course content好抽象/難理解 而且成個Sem都唔知自己學緊D咩 感覺好迷失
